More Problems… and Still Digging

Posted on 02 October 2008

An update on efforts to get this site working fully again:

  1. The home page appears to work, but…
  2. I discovered today that the hosting company changed something in the configuration that renders all other pages on the site inaccessible. I have a helpdesk request out to them. :-(
  3. I have to completely rebuild my gallery from scratch. :-(
  4. I have created the gallery, but it will take me some time to put all of the photos from the past year back into it. :-(

I continue to try to be polite and not publicly use the words that I’m thinking as I deal with this mess, and I continue to refrain from mentioning who my hosting company is.

Sorry to hear about all the site problems Dan. In a pretty short time I have become a frequent browser here, and I miss the site when it is down… that’s the bad part.

The good part is that I am hitting the road on my motorcycle WAY early in the morning and heading on up over Carson Pass and Monitor Pass to spend several days making mediocre images. We’re gonna have SNOW on the mountains!

Stop screwing around with the site and get your carcass up to the mountains. The site can wait.

  • Well, Michael, funny you should mention that… :-)

I am getting my carcass up into the mountains this weekend also – no matter what happens with this web site stuff. I’m going to head across Tioga Pass (if it is still open at that time) or Carson Pass (if Tioga isn’t available) and be in Bishop on Friday night. I’ll shoot on Saturday and Sunday wherever the conditions seem right.

I’m looking forward to the possibility of combining aspens with first snow in some of the photographs. My precise plans – beyond a motel in Bishop on Friday – are flexible, but I know I want to get up to North Lake and perhaps some of the other areas near there on at least one day. There is also a pretty good chance that I’ll try to hit Lundy Canyon, Conway Summit, and perhaps Monitor Pass at sunset on my return trip on Sunday.

I’ll keep my eyes open for a motorcyclist with photo gear!

Several of us from the FM forums are meeting Saturday 11:30AM for lunch at the Whoa Nellie Deli. Sure would be cool if you could make it. I’d like to meet you.

BTW, I will be riding the motorcycle up there and back, but at least for Saturday all day and Sunday morning I will be with my friend in his 4WD truck.

  • Michael, I’d say that the odds are better than even that I may be able to meet you folks for lunch there. My usual routine – though weather may change things this time – is to get up very to shoot, to work for some hours until perhaps mid-morning, and then to slack off in the middle of the day. If my slacking off can be done at Whoa Nellie, you may see me there.

If I make it there, I’ll perhaps come in with enough camera gear in hand that you’ll notice me. ;-)

    Dan
