Photographic Musing of the Day

If we lived in some alternate universe in which the current level of digital photographic technology (digital backs/cameras, digital post-processing, and high end inkjet printing) and the current level of chemical photography technology both appeared in the world simultaneously and photographers were asked to make a choice, would anyone actually chose the wet chemistry darkroom over the digital “darkroom?”

  1. In art, there are different media that people can use, whether oils or acrylics or water color or even charcoal or whatever. I can’t paint but I can appreciate that different artists like to use a favorite media or maybe a combination of them for their art.

And whereas I don’t have a chemistry darkroom I still like to play with film. I certainly take far more pictures digitally these days but I still find film loads of fun and a challenge. While technology moves on and you can do stuff digitally that you could never dream of doing with film, I hope film never goes away.

  2. Not me. I’ll leave the chemistry darkroom to the fanatics. Anything to not have any junk/toys taking up more space–the reason I purchase MP3s, and soon ebooks.
