Ivan, I usually camp, and most often in the larger campgrounds. I typically end up at Stovepipe Wells on the first night. (An exception was one time when I drove into the park and just kept going to the Racetrack. THAT was a long day!) Stovepipe has a very basic tent campground with no shelter, but it is relatively conveniently located and has decent services nearby. I've also camped at Furnace Creek, both in the main campground and in the smaller one in the hills above it, Sunset campground I believe is the name. Some years ago I camped at Mesquite Springs, which was also fine. If you get out into the back country in many cases it is OK to camp wherever you need to, subject to some park rules.

The next few weeks should be good. There is a chance that I might go the weekend after this - though I'm a bit more inclined to do some Sierra winter photography then and save DEVA for the end of March this year.
